What is “Google My Business”?

To understand what “Google My Business” is, we have to first understand what it was.

Back in 2011 Google launched Google Plus (or G+) as a social network to rival competitors. Due to poor usage and potential security issues it was shut down in 2019.

However, “Google My Business” was set-up in 2014 and has been going from strength to strength.

so, what are the differences between
“google my business” and google +:

Google My Business Google +
✅ Showcases your customers and potential customers You chose who you shared information with
✅ Has a dashboard, allowing you to see how new customers find your site Was a social networking site, allowing you to connect with existing customers
✅ Allows customers to see information about your business; opening hours, address, contact information Would just show your photos and how many followers you have

“Google My Business” is a better tool to increase traffic to your website and therefore increase your number of customers.

The 4 key benefits of ‘Google My Business’:

1. Be found

  • Have your business show up in search results when people are looking for you online.
  • As Google is the main search referrer, having a Google My Business listing will ensure your company shows up in the search results. It will also show your customers how to get in touch, or visit your business (if you have a physical address).
  • Take control of being found. Don’t leave it to Yell.com or similar. It is simple to set-up, simple to use and we will show you how to optimise it to work for you and to keep your customers informed.

2. Easily connect

  • Claim a page for your business and create a social media profile to promote your services through images, posts, videos and events
  • Give easy access to your contact details and hours of operation
  • Important link to website, directions (if you have a place of work)
  • An insight and overview of your business as well as important reviews

3. Build trust

  • With a GMB listing you are twice as likely to be considered a reputable business by consumers. And having a complete listing also earns more trust.
  • Customers are 70% more likely to visit a business with a listing.
  • 88% of consumers trust online reviews. It is important to respond to your Google reviews, even the negative ones! This is so customers and potential customers see you’re engaging. Not only this but that you care about the feedback you receive.

4. Understand and grow

  • The homepage is your main dashboard, this has all the information you need in a snapshot. Be sure to utilise this to see how you’re performing and where you can make improvements
  • Your information tab is key to successfully utilising the dashboard. You need to include as much information as possible and at the bare minimum your address, telephone, email and opening hours
  • The account will allow you to gain insight into how customers are finding you, which in turn will help you when you’re looking for new ways to attract new customers. Furthermore, it will stand you apart from a local competitor as you will be listed in the local google listings
  • Really take time to understand your insights page. This is so, SO important as it provides you with so much key information and it’s FREE! We will go into more depth about insights in our next blog
